A yoga block (yoga brick or support piece) is an aid used in yoga practice to support, deepen and facilitate various asanas. It is usually made of hard foam, cork or wood and is meant to provide additional support and stability during exercise.
In our selection you can find various yoga blocks for both home and studio use. We will be happy to help you choose the right products!
What is a yoga block used for?
Yoga blocks and bricks are probably the most commonly used yoga equipment. They help bring the floor closer in standing asanas and provide additional support when sitting and lying down. In short, use a block whenever your hands wouldn't otherwise reach the ground in an asana. Great for, for example, forward bending, downward facing dog or camel asana.
Using yoga blocks helps to avoid excessive strain, improves your alignment and deepens your postures so you can become more flexible. Sure, yoga can be done without blocks, such as leaning your hands on your shins or ankles, but blocks offer significantly more stability and comfort and help improve your mobility faster.
We also recommend yoga blocks for those struggling with painful joints. Sometimes asanas put too much stress on the wrists, and changing the position of the hands with a yoga block can relieve this pressure. Yoga blocks are also suitable as meditation seats, helping to maintain a good meditation posture.
You can place the brick on any side against the floor for many different height options. In our block selection you will find several different shapes: traditional brick shape, oval shape and flat version. Larger size yoga blocks are recommended for large hands (for example men) and those with a more limited range of motion.
The yoga bricks are sold individually, but we recommend buying two to get support for both hands when needed.
Material
Yoga bricks are made in several different materials.
Cork is an ideal material for yoga blocks because it is durable, light and safe to use. The soft but sturdy cork surface offers good grip and does not scratch the floor or yoga mat.
Foam yoga props are usually the cheapest compared to wooden or cork yoga props. They are also lighter, softer and easy to clean. Because of these features and the cheap price, foam yoga props are also widely used in yoga studios. The downsides are that dirt can stick to the foam, and it is not very environmentally friendly. Some people think that the foam is not sturdy enough or stable enough for hard use.
Wooden yoga blocks are also occasionally encountered, but their use has decreased as other materials have become more common. Compared to cork or foam, a wooden yoga support piece is always harder and usually also heavier.
In summary, the block is a really versatile and necessary tool for both beginners and more experienced yogis. Choose the size and material of the block according to your needs and preferences. If necessary, ask our customer service for help choosing products, we will be happy to help you! We also deliver larger batches for studio use.
